The Bowen Technique
What is Bowen?
A remedial therapy which has had amazing results for those with back pain, neck pain, migraines and more. As someone who suffers from migraines, Bowen has enabled me to reintroduce things that used to be triggers and has given me so much more flexibility with my lifestyle. Now I hope to do the same for you!
Bowen uses thumbs and forefingers on precise points to gently stimulate the muscles, soft tissue and fascia within the body. These moves prompt the body to make the adjustments which help to re-balance, relieve tension and reduce pain.
There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue. The experience of the treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing and it is these features which make The Bowen Technique so unique.
I often describe it as the opposite of Sports Massage. We touch you very gently, in precise points that have far reaching connections and potential results without a treatment that causes pain or discomfort.
What to expect during a session.
A session can last between half an hour to 1 hour.
Treatment can be done on skin or through light clothing, you may be asked to remove heavy or thick garments.
You will lie or sit down, depending on the areas that need to be worked on.
The therapist uses their fingers or thumbs to apply gentle, rolling movements on specific areas. They’ll mainly use their thumbs and index fingers.
The therapist will stretch and move the skin. The pressure will vary, but it won’t be forceful.
Throughout the session, the therapist will regularly leave the room to let your body respond and adjust. They’ll return after 2 to 5 minutes.
The therapist will repeat the movements as necessary.
When your session is done, your therapist will provide self-care instructions and lifestyle recommendations.
Your symptoms might change during the treatment, after the session, or several days later.
Cara is professional and accommodating. She gave the opportunity to discuss particular areas of concern and carried out the treatment in an informative way. The treatment itself yielded positive results for ongoing neck issues.
As a Bowen novice, I had no idea what to expect but Cara made everything very comfortable, she explained what she was moving every step of the way and gave my body plenty of time to react and settle after each section. Cara's practice is calm and friendly, and I really felt like my body was respected and listened to. Thank you Cara!
I am so glad I got introduced to Bowen Technique, it helped me a lot! I still can feel less tension in my face and especially around my eyes/forehead area, since I have eye migraine and stress related headaches it helped me with that a lot.
