The Professional Standards Authority is accountable to Parliament, and accreditation by this independent body demonstrates that a voluntary register is managed effectively and adheres to good practice. It enhances public protection and enables service users, employers, healthcare commissioners and the public to choose a practitioner who is competent and behaves in an ethical and compassionate manner.

The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) is the leading professional association for complementary, holistic beauty and sports therapists. We help you to find a therapist who is qualified, insured and who follows our strict Code of Conduct and Professional Practice. Now that's reassuring.

While our primary job is to represent the interests of our members, we also have a duty to protect the public who use our members’ services.

When choosing a member of the FHT, you can rest assured that your therapist:

  • has qualifications that meet national minimum standards;

  • is insured to practise those therapies they are qualified in;

  • abides by the FHT Code of Conduct and Professional Practice;

  • is subject to a robust disciplinary procedure if a formal complaint is made.

There are a number of guidelines opposite that we hope will prove useful in your search for an appropriate therapist.

Please note that any treatments you have should be complementary to your usual medical care. Never use a complementary therapy in place of medical treatment.

If you are currently under the care of your doctor or another health professional, please be sure to let them know if you are having any complementary therapies.

The FHT Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register

The FHT Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, under its Accredited Registers programme.

The Accredited Register quality mark will give extra peace of mind for anyone looking for a practitioner, letting them know that anyone who holds the mark is committed to the high standards of the organisation holding an accredited voluntary register.
